FAQ

Common Questions

It depends on what’s wrong. Adjusting the rollers or track is usually the cheapest fix. Glass, frame work or replacing all the hardware costs more because of the parts and the time it takes. We look at the door first and give you the price before we start, so the bill won’t surprise you.

Usually it’s worn rollers, a dirty or bent track, or a door that has shifted a little out of line. Most of the time, cleaning the track and adjusting or replacing the rollers fixes it.

Usually, yes. A lot of tracks that look broken are really just dirty, corroded or a little bent. We clean the track, straighten it and smooth out small dents right there. It only needs replacing when the metal is cracked, badly rusted or too warped for the door to roll well.

A light interior door you can usually lift back on yourself. Glass patio doors are different. They’re heavy, and if one slips it can crack the glass or hurt someone. For glass or aluminum-frame doors, we’d recommend calling us.

Most repairs, like new rollers, a track adjustment or a lock fix, take 30 minutes to 2 hours. Glass or frame work can take longer, and if we have to order a part, we’ll come back a second time.

Yes. We work on aluminum, vinyl, wood and fiberglass frames. The repair is a little different for each one, and our techs work on all of them.

Watch for a door that sticks or grinds, gaps that let in drafts, a lock that won’t catch, cracked or foggy glass, or a track you can see is bent. If you catch it early, the fix is usually cheaper and quicker.

Repair is almost always cheaper. We’d only suggest a new door if the frame is badly damaged or the door is so old that parts aren’t made anymore. Either way, we’ll tell you straight which one makes more sense.

Yes. If your door won’t close or lock, your house isn’t secure, so we move those calls to the front of the line and try to come out the same day. Call us right away.

Yes. Our work is covered by our workmanship warranty, and new parts are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty. Your tech can go over the details at the visit.

Vacuum or brush out the tracks every so often. Sand and dirt in the track is usually what makes a door stick, more than a lack of lube. Then spray a silicone lubricant on the tracks and rollers and slide the door back and forth a few times.

Don’t use WD-40 on the track. It’s a degreaser, not a lubricant that lasts. It picks up dust and grit, and in a few weeks the track gets gummy again.

Silicone spray holds up to water, doesn’t collect dirt and lasts a lot longer. We recommend the Blaster 11 oz. Industrial Strength Silicone Lubricant Spray ($7.98 at Home Depot) (opens in a new tab).
